Family Health and Empowerment to the Vulnerable Apida Community Initiative
We are launching a transformational project to support some of the most vulnerable families in our community, and we need your help. In collaboration with the Apida Community Health CBO, which operates one of the local community hospitals, we have created a plan for real, sustainable change.
Our goal is in two fold:
- Ensure that every widow and family provider has medical coverage. When they are insured, their children are automatically covered until the age of 21.
- Empower families long-term by purchasing a community fishing motorboat, enabling them to fish, sell, and build independent economical activities for sustainable livelihoods.
Medical Insurance (SHA) Social Health Authority for Vulnerable Families (690 USD/600 EUR)
Many families in the Apida community live without access to healthcare because they lack insurance. We are raising funds to purchase medical insurance for parents, which, under government policy, also extends coverage to their children until they turn 21 years. This coverage ensures that families are protected when they need care the most. To give you perspective: one night out in a developed country can pay for almost a full year of medical insurance for a family head supporting a range of 4 to 8 children. Just one less dinner out can protect from 5 to 9 people for a whole year. Even a small contribution creates a huge impact.
Build Long-Term Financial Independence: A Community Fishing Boat (1900 USD/1600 EUR)
We envision a motorboat owned by the community as a source of sustainable income. Families will use it for fishing, while widows who know how to process fish will prepare and sell it. With the support of Apida Community Health CBO, we will help manage the business, ensuring that sales benefit all participating families.
This initiative will help us to bring the families the opportunity to help families like that of Millicent Adhiambo. She lost her husband years ago and now raises six children on her own. Every day, she performs manual labor, removing fish scales by hand, earning around 1.5 USD /1.3 EUR.
How Donations Will Be Used
You can support us in two ways:
1 . General Project Donation: Contribute any amount toward the overall project (Community Fishing Boat + Medical Insurance). Donations will be used as needed, covering insurance first and then supporting the purchase of the boat and equipment.
2. Medical Insurance Donation: Contribute a fixed amount (7 USD / 5 EUR or 10 USD / 8 EUR) directly toward providing medical insurance for a family head in the community.
NOTE: We are committed to transparency. We provide regular updates on how your money is used, how many families are covered, and the progress of the general project.
